Spring Fun 2026
We are almost two months into a new year and it means that another season is about to be upon us. Spring doesn't officially begin until March 20th but I start my seasonal lists early. Hopefully, I will have the energy to write more posts about checking these things off this time and sharing on social media. Maritime races to do in 2026
Back in 2015, I walked my first 5k and enjoyed it. A few people at my father's work were participating in the Bluenose Marathon and asked if my dad and I wanted to join them, which we did. Both of us signed up to do the 5km walk and while I was able to keep up with him and a co-worker of his for the first third, they have longer legs than I do so I fell behind. I did eventually finish, with my official time being 55 minutes and 16 seconds, which is to date still my fastest ti

Best Halifax trails in the winter
In Canada, winter is cold and snowy and for a lot of people, it can be very depressing. I don't mind winter most years because I have had hockey to keep me entertained. Plus, I have also been able to see my family and some travelling to do. One great way to combat depression and the winter blues, is to go for a walk. The Halifax Regional Municipality has many trails despite it being a city, so I thought I would let you know my favourite ones to visit in the winter time. The o

Hello from Adventures of a NS Girl
Like the title says, hello and welcome! I have decided to do a revamp of my adventures blog and social media so I thought I would introduce myself again and share where you can find me. My name is Ashley, and I love hockey, travelling and exploring new trails. I have not been able to check off any of the things on my bucket list the last number of years (since 2019), so have made this blog into sharing my adventures around Nova Scotia mostly, plus any other exploring I may d

35 Goals before 35th Birthday
I'm not sure many people do a 35 goals before they turn 35 but I'm going to since I didn't do a whole lot on my 30 before 30 list. It has been difficult with COVID and not having a job most of the time during the last 5 years. Anyways, I did finally think about what I want to accomplish before my 35th birthday (which is in July 2028) and have created the list below. Taken during a photography class A lot of these were on my 30 before 30 post (on which I only completed three g

Travel to a new country solo
Like I mentioned in my introduction post, I love hockey and a life goal is to see a game at each of the NHL arenas. To give myself some guidance I decided to try and first finish seeing the Original 6 teams before my 30th birthday (which won't happen now) so in November I traveled to Chicago, Boston and Detroit. I say finish as I have been to Toronto and New York already. This was the first trip that I had gone on outside of Canada all by myself which was a little scary. My

30 Goals before 30th Birthday
Turning 30 is a big milestone for many people and somehow I am getting close to that age. The past few years I have really come to realize that one never knows when they will leave this world so I have decided that I want to make the best of the rest of my 20's. I have been very lucky with what I have been able to do since moving out of my teenage years but there is more I would like to accomplish. Thus, I have created my own 30 goals before my 30th birthday list. I have a l

Christmas lights at Evergreen Festival
This past December, a new festival came to Halifax called the Evergreen Festival. The Facebook page about tab says 'Community comes alive with music, light and joy. Evergreen Festival is a new holiday festival on the Halifax waterfront, throughout downtown, and online.' Just like almost everything in 2020, the event planners were forced to put a portion of the festival online so I didn't experience as much of it as I wanted to. There was a virtual market with local businesse

Exploring my own province (pt. 2)
Completed: August 21, 2020 This is a continuation to last week's blog as the 2017 trip made for a long post. Here I'll share about the other two. 2018 High-tide at Burntcoat Our next trip was for just as long and just as busy. We had our vacation booked for August 9 to August 19 in 2018. Mom and I visited some places we already had but we also travelled to some new areas of Nova Scotia. In 2017, we went to Burntcoat Head at low tide so for this trip we wanted to go back but

Exploring my own province (pt. 1)
Completed: August 21, 2020 This is really something that is ongoing but I spent three summer vacations concentrating on exploring as much of my province as I could so I am saying this item is complete. I have wanted to explore my own province for a while and in 2017, we finally dedicated time to doing it. I had done some travelling around Nova Scotia as my grandparents live in Annapolis Royal and New Minas and I played Ringette growing up so I was pretty familiar with the Ha

Burger Week 2020
I was really looking forward to participating in Burger Week 2020 but because of the pandemic they had to postpone it from March and were finally able to put it on in October. This was the 8th edition with over 140 restaurant locations selling burgs. According to the website 'it is a city-wide burger-eating phenomenon and fundraiser for Feed Nova Scotia put on by The Coast. Creative burger offerings either have a set price of $6, or a higher price with the restaurant making a

Seeing my favourite player again
I love travelling in winter apparently but I guess that is to be expected since I LOVE hockey. Early in 2020, before the pandemic really hit North America, I made a trip to Winnipeg and boy, February is the wrong time to go. When I am not travelling or exploring my province, I am in a rink most times. Since the 2012-13 hockey season, I have been a Halifax Mooseheads season ticket holder. In June 2013, a player from Denmark named Nikolaj Ehlers was drafted in the import draft

Check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Completed: December 4, 2018 In 2001, the first Harry Potter movie was coming out in theatres and as a class project we read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book. We even got sorted into houses; I got put in Slytherin. Ever since then I have enjoyed the Harry Potter series and have read all 7 books at least 3 times and have all the movies as well. So when I heard that Universal was making a land based around the JK Rowling series at their Florida location, I knew I ha

Burger Week 2019
I love my city and my province. Every year, Halifax has Burger Week towards the end of March which raises money for Feed Nova Scotia. It has grown to be really big with over 140 restaurants participating in 2019. Each place has a special burger for the seven days, most times one that is just for this event and most will have a donation made however there are about forty restaurants that have $6 burgers that do not include donations. These places I guess have to put money towa

Have fun at a Disney park
Completed: December 3, 2018 After the hockey wishes and becoming a sister, the next thing I put on my bucket list was to have fun at Walt Disney World which looking back I really did. I keep thinking about it. I grew up watching Disney movies and the Disney channel, I loved the Toy Story films and when I found out that they were going to have a Toy Story Land I knew I had to go. My cousin Kiersten agreed to go with me and after some planning we had booked our flights in April

A different New Year's Day
OMG it was amazing! For my 23rd birthday, my mom gave me money so I could head to Toronto for a Maple Leafs game that was being played on New Year's Day 2017. Since 2008, the National Hockey League has hosted a Winter Classic outdoor match, normally held at a football or baseball stadium. In 2014 they added other outdoor games. The Leafs were playing the Detroit Red Wings that day, to celebrate the NHL's 100th anniversary they played in what was dubbed the Centennial Classic.

See Sidney Crosby play live
Completed: November 1, 2017 After watching the 2007 Stanley Cup finals, I have been paying attention to the sport a lot more and since then I have wanted to see the greatest player of my generation play live. Sidney Crosby, who was born and raised in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, was projected to be the next Wayne Gretzky when he was still in minor hockey. Crosby has been my favourite player since I started watching him with the Pittsburgh Penguins. I love travelling and decide
